To start this off...Derick as a newborn was before digital camera time!! CRAZY HUH?
SO...that being said...these first pictures are the first we have from the digital age!
So this is my handsome boy at age 1...Oh he is such a little STUD!!
This is one of my ALL TIME favorite pictures of Derick and myself!!
And....here is my grumpy 9 year old as Erick and I woke him with a birthday song and donuts. He was not too thrilled at that moment! Not to worry, the day and his mood thankfully got better!
Paiz and I got donuts for his class and delivered them to him. He was THRILLED! She loves her big brother so much...can you tell?
Birthday Parties were becoming a bit of a chore for me every year. I had heard some friends only did their kids a party every other year, Erick and I thought this was BRILLIANT! So we decided on their "off" year, we would take the birthday child out on a date with just us. Derick was a little unsure that this would be as fun as a party with friends but I assured him, that Daddy and I are a freaking BLAST to hang out with! (not really) but we promised a good time and it REALLY WAS.
We started our date with Dinner...We went to Benihanas. It is a super fun place to eat. It is quite pricey so we will keep this little jewel reserved for only the MOST SPECIAL occasions! It was well worth the time with our boy!
Our Chef...was I think new to the job. He was pretty funny and although Erick and I have seen better, this was Derick's first experience and he LOVED IT!!
The food here was SOOOO good!
Then it was time for his present from Erick and I. He has been wanting an ITouch for sometime. He is SUCH a good boy and more than deserving.
I am pretty sure he is happy with his gift! :)
After dinner we headed over to the mall to walk around for a bit and wait for our movie to start. We saw Rapunzel. It was super cute!
I KNOW...I KNOW....I said there was not going to be a party....
Well, this family of ours was not going to let me off the hook that easy. So we had a family dinner the Sunday after Derick's birthday with our families. Derick got to pick the menu...he chose-
Hot dogs on the grill
"pickle salad" (potato salad)
chips
Rootbeer from the bottle
and
Cheese Cake with Strawberry topping!
YUMMMYYY!
Even without a friend party, this kid got spoiled! Here are a couple of his gifts...
My little Bubba Love,
I love you! I LOVE LOVE LOVE you! I know I tell you this ALL THE TIME, but it is so true I can't go very long without saying it to you! My first born, what a gift you are to me. You are such a genuine soul. It is in your pure make-up to be good, to choose the right and to work hard. You are so funny and charming and SERIOUSLY good looking! I can't believe you are so big. I can't believe that my little boy is growing up so fast. I promise you Derick, if I could...I would stop this nonsense right now and keep you little and with me FOREVER. I would. I know that I cannot, so I will treasure every photo I have of you, every moment and memory I can make with you as you grow. I will journal faithfully so that I don't forget any of this time with you! I KNOW you are going to grow to be AMAZING just like your Daddy. I know it because you idolize him and want to be with him and like him in every way. That is a good thing, and I hope you never grow out of it. You are way into music right now and dancing. You make us laugh all the time with your "moves and skills" as you call them. Or maybe it is SKILZ. Yes, that sounds right. I am so happy you are our first born. You are a leader and always have been. You are paving the way for your siblings and I know you will lead with Faith. I love you my sweet tender hearted little boy. Don't grow up too fast on Mommy, my heart can only handle so much at the time. I hope you had a great 9th Birthday, I know that Daddy and I had a great time with you. We love you...We LOVE LOVE LOVE YOU!!
(see there I go again...I told you!)
Love,
Momma
